If you're interested in a sad book, this is your kind of book. This book takes place in Guatemala when the Guerillas attacked the Indios. There soon became a war. In Guatemala lived a 14 year old girl called Gabriella. Gabriella was going to turn 15 and she's going to have a Quinceniera. In her Quinceniera, Guerillas came in her party because they were looking for this man. Gabriella's brother tried to defend his family. The Guerillas took him with them. They never saw him again. Later her mom got sick, and sadly died. After that something terrible happened, but that you're going have to find out.


This book is the best historical fiction book I've ever read. I really recommend it to readers. Plus It's not that long it's only 229 pages long. When I read this book, I can imagine it as a movie in my head. I really love how Ben Mikaelsen describes the details of this book.
