This book should come with a 100% scare warning. This book is not for children who have nightmares, because the nightmares will increase. Grubbs Grady, a teenager returns home and finds his parents and sister eviscerated by deadly demons out of Hell.
Nobody believes in Lord Loss. It's only when his Uncle Dervish saves him from a lunatic tradition of the nature and ancient curse his family has. Lord Loss forces him to play chess in order to save their souls. You would not be able to put this book down.
Darren Shan wanted this book to be scary and it was. From when Grubbs puts rat guts on his sister, to when Bill-E is a werewolf.
The writing in this book is very effective. It has you at the edge of your seat throughout the whole book. The best thing about this book is how it builds suspense then ends with a bang. I really disliked the suspense because it took a long time to know what's going to happen.
Darren Shan has a lot of experience writing scary books. He's the author of the Cirque De Freak series. This is the most interesting book I've ever read.
I would recommend this book to anyone who can handle it. It is so scary, but it pulls you in.
